Eyonzy Recruitment is hiring a Technical Superintendent for a US-headquartered shipowner and operator, based in its Singapore office. It suits an experienced superintendent from a dry bulk or tanker background who wants real autonomy over how their vessels are maintained and docked.

Key details

About the company

Our client is a US-headquartered shipowner and operator providing maritime transportation and logistics services. Its Singapore office manages the technical operation of part of the fleet, working closely with colleagues in the United States. The Singapore team is set to grow over the coming years, giving the successful candidate scope to develop with it.

About the role

As Technical Superintendent, you will be the owner's technical lead for your assigned vessels, responsible for keeping them safe, compliant, reliable and within budget. You will report to the Fleet Director and work closely with masters, chief engineers, class, flag and shipyards.

This is a hands-on role with real ownership. You will plan and manage your vessels' maintenance and dry dockings as you see fit, attending on board for inspections, dockings and major repairs. Regular regional and international travel is part of the role.

What you will be doing

Dry docking and repairs

You will own the full dry docking cycle for your vessels. You will prepare complete dry dock and repair specifications covering class, statutory and owner's items, issue enquiries to shipyards, evaluate quotations and recommend yard selection to the Fleet Director. You will build and manage docking budgets, schedules and work lists, then attend on site as owner's representative, supervising the yard, controlling variations and signing off completed work. Each docking closes with a cost reconciliation, a final report and lessons learned for the next.

Vessel operations and maintenance

You will act as the technical lead for 3 to 4 vessels, staying in close contact with masters and chief engineers. You will oversee the Planned Maintenance System, defect reporting and condition monitoring, and carry out regular superintendent visits and inspections in port and at sea. You will attend on board for any major breakdown, lead root cause analysis and make sure corrective actions are put in place.

Quality, health, safety, environment and regulatory

You will keep your vessels compliant with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS, MLC and environmental requirements, including ballast water and emissions rules. You will manage class and flag surveys, prepare vessels for Port State Control and close out findings. For tanker tonnage, you will support vetting (SIRE 2.0, CDI) and oil major inspections and contribute to TMSA. You will also take part in internal and external audits and in incident investigations.

Budget control

You will prepare, monitor and control the annual operating budget for your vessels, covering technical, spares and repairs, and report monthly on variances. You will approve spares and service requisitions, working with procurement on cost and lead times.

People and collaboration

You will work closely with the Fleet Director, the crewing, marine and procurement teams, and colleagues in the United States. You will support the assessment and development of senior engineers on board, and build strong working relationships with shipyards, class societies and service providers across the region.

What we are looking for

You will come from a seagoing background as a Chief Engineer or Second Engineer, holding a Class 1 or Class 2 Certificate of Competency (STCW III/2), or hold a degree in marine engineering or naval architecture with equivalent experience. You will have at least 3 years' shore-based experience as a Technical Superintendent with a shipowner or ship manager, on dry bulk or tanker tonnage.

You will have a proven track record of writing dry dock specifications and managing dockings on site from start to finish, ideally at major repair yards in Singapore, China, Korea or the Middle East. You will have sound knowledge of class and flag requirements and the ISM, MARPOL and SOLAS frameworks, and experience managing vessel budgets and controlling repair costs. Tanker vetting experience (SIRE 2.0, CDI), familiarity with TMSA and knowledge of EEXI, CII and energy-efficiency retrofits would be an advantage.

You will take ownership of decisions and outcomes, stay calm under pressure when unplanned repairs and emergency dockings arise, and communicate clearly and confidently with crews, yards, class and senior management. You will balance safety and reliability against cost with good commercial judgement.

The role is open to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents. A valid passport and freedom to travel regularly at short notice are essential.
