Eyonzy Recruitment is hiring an Assistant Outfitting Manager (Composite) for an established shipyard serving the offshore industry in Saudi Arabia. The package is SAR 13,500 a month with medical cover, 30 days' leave and an annual flight home. It suits an experienced outfitting superintendent or senior supervisor from a shipyard or offshore fabrication background who is ready to run a large trade workforce and stand in for the section head.

Key details

About the company

Our client is an established shipyard in Saudi Arabia working for clients in the offshore industry. Its Outfitting department is split into trade sections, each run against an agreed budget and schedule and to recognised industry standards. Production works closely with the yard's design, construction and QC teams, and client representatives inspect and sign off work as each job progresses.

About the role

As Assistant Outfitting Manager (Composite), you will help run the yard's composite outfitting section, which covers sheet metal, carpentry and related outfitting work. You will report to the head of the section and take full charge whenever they are away, so this is a genuine deputy role rather than an assistant post in name only.

The section has around 100 people under it, including engineers, supervisors, foremen and workmen. You will plan and allocate the work, keep jobs on budget and on programme, deal with QC and client inspections, and report progress to the Production Manager. You will also contribute to the department's capital expenditure planning, giving you exposure to how the yard invests in its facilities.

What you will be doing

Running the section day to day

You will organise, allocate and supervise work across all teams in the composite section, and manage the manpower administration that goes with a workforce of this size. You will hold daily toolbox talks, encourage open discussion on the shop floor and keep the working atmosphere good. You will make sure tools and facilities are looked after through planned preventive maintenance, and support the section head in running the department.

Engineering and drawings

You will prepare engineering analysis for projects, covering preliminary design, calculations, life cycle cost and equipment selection. You will prepare and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings and layouts, review proposed changes to engineering standards and details, and coordinate the work of the design and construction teams.

Quality, testing and client liaison

You will work with QC and the client's representatives to arrange tests and inspections, so that work moves forward without delay and is completed to contractual requirements. You will help develop and apply the section's policies, systems and procedures so that every job meets procedural and legislative requirements while staying cost effective.

Health and safety

You will be responsible for the HSE compliance of everyone working in the section, making sure safe working practices are followed for every task and every tool in use.

Budgets, reporting and improvement

You will keep progress data up to date and prepare accurate, timely reports and statements for the department. You will help prepare the department's CAPEX budget, and look for ways to improve productivity, reduce cost and bring the section's systems and practices in line with international standards.

What we are looking for

You will hold a degree or diploma in a relevant engineering or technical field. You will have at least 15 years' experience in a similar role in the offshore industry, with at least 5 of those years as a supervisor.

You will have a sound working knowledge of composite outfitting trades, in particular sheet metal and carpentry, and of the standards and methods that apply to them. You will be comfortable reading and producing drawings, carrying out engineering calculations and managing labour and materials so that both are used efficiently.

You will be a strong supervisor and manager of people, able to lead a large trade workforce and work well with engineers, QC, production management and clients. The client values analytical thinking, a focus on results and a practical, creative approach to solving problems on the job.
