Technical Superintendent - Tankers

Technical · Hamburg

Tanker Fleet | Hamburg Location: Hamburg, Germany (office-based) Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience About the company Our client is a well-established and highly regarded international ship management company with a global fleet spanning multiple vessel types and a track record spanning several decades. With offices across key maritime hubs worldwide, the company provides comprehensive technical, crewing and commercial management services to a diverse portfolio of shipowners and operators. Their Hamburg office serves as a centre of operational excellence for a portion of their managed fleet, and this appointment reflects continued investment in technical expertise at that level. The business operates to high standards of safety, environmental compliance and asset maintenance, and is recognised within the industry for the quality of its technical management teams and its commitment to crew welfare and professional development. This is a company where experienced marine professionals are genuinely valued and where there is scope to build a long-term career within an organisation of real substance and international reach. About the role This is a Technical Superintendent position based permanently at the Hamburg office, with accountability for the technical management of a fleet of three to four tanker vessels of varying ages. The role sits within an experienced and collaborative technical team and offers a strong platform for a sea-going engineer looking to transition ashore, or for a shore-based superintendent seeking a well-supported and stable long-term position. Our client is able to offer visa sponsorship for candidates requiring it, and will also provide several months of accommodation support to allow the successful candidate the time to settle into life in Hamburg and find a permanent base. This is a genuine and practical commitment to making the relocation work, and reflects the company's longer-term intentions for this hire. What you will be doing You will take full technical superintendency responsibility for your assigned fleet of tankers, covering planned maintenance, class and statutory survey management, dry docking planning and attendance, and the preparation and oversight of vessel budgets. You will work closely with your vessels' chief engineers and masters to ensure technical standards are maintained, defects are addressed promptly and that each vessel operates in compliance with flag state, class and company requirements. You will manage drydocking and repair projects from initial planning through to completion, engaging with shipyards, suppliers and class surveyors to deliver projects on time and within budget. You will carry out regular vessel inspections and attend port visits as required, and will manage technical procurement for your fleet in liaison with the purchasing function. You will work within the company's safety management system and contribute to the continuous improvement of technical procedures and standards across the fleet. You will also be a point of contact and support for the officers and technical crew on your assigned vessels. What we are looking for Candidates will need a strong background in marine engineering, with seagoing experience to Chief Engineer level being strongly preferred. A STCW Chief Engineer certificate of competency (or equivalent) would be the natural foundation for this role, and experience with tanker vessel types is essential given the nature of the fleet. Prior shore-based experience as a Technical Superintendent is an advantage, though the role is well-suited to an experienced sea-going engineer who is ready to make the transition ashore and who has the technical depth and personal maturity to manage a fleet independently from day one. You will need to be comfortable managing multiple priorities across a small fleet of vessels, including budget oversight, survey planning and project management. A willingness to relocate to Hamburg is required. The company will support this through its sponsorship and accommodation package, and the expectation is that you will become a long-term member of the Hamburg technical team. Proficiency in English is essential; German language skills are helpful but not a requirement. What is on offer Our client is offering a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience. Visa sponsorship is available for candidates who require it, and the company will provide several months of accommodation support to ease the relocation and allow you time to find a permanent home in Hamburg. This is a stable, well-supported long-term position within an internationally respected ship management business, with real scope to develop your career in a shore-based technical role
